There are recall elections for selectmen under way here in Paris; one election took place Feb. 1, the second will be Feb. 5.

Recalling an elected official is serious. There are laws and procedures explaining how the process works. Paris’ welfare depends on decisions made in open and honest discussions that serve the town as a whole. The recall of an elected official is the only way the voting majority has of protecting itself and the town from incompetent decisions that continue to be made by any irresponsible official.

Paris voters must look past the games, tricks and ploys of a few who have consistently sold the people short, thinking Paris voters don’t know how to tell which elected officials are taking care of the town and which are taking care of themselves.

There are still two candidates on the ballot for recall on Feb. 5, no matter who says he has resigned; his resignation was not officially accepted by the Board of Selectmen.

If not already voted absentee, Paris voters should make the effort to get to the polls and mark, to remove or not to remove, each of the two selectmen up for recall on that ballot.
