Sheldon Richard Greene
1942 – 2010
TOGUS — Sheldon Richard Greene, born Oct. 27, 1942, in West Farmington, at his parent’s house, passed away Feb. 1, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He attended schools in Farmington, and Westfield Trade High School in Westfield, Mass., and subsequently graduated from Concord High School in New Hampshire in 1962.
In July 1960, he entered the Navy Reserves and entered Active Duty in July 1962, and was honorably discharged May 1966. During his career in the Navy, he took part in many Naval Operations.
In 1963, he was part of the Cuban Blockade, The Bay of Pigs, as wells as Operation Deep Freeze 1964, a tour of duty that included the Antarctic and 26 countries throughout the world. After his discharge, he returned to Amherst, N.H., and worked for his brother in Milford, N.H., learning the auto body trade.
On April 16, 1966, he married Marcia Lynne McGrath in Merrimac, N.H. They lived in the Milford area before moving to Norway in late 1973. He later built two homes in South Paris, where Marcia resides still.
He started Greene’s Auto Body shortly after moving to Norway and later moved his business to South Paris and started a successful business, JeePanels Plus, the only antique reproduction Jeep body panel’s manufacturer located in the United States at the time.
He will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. He has an endless list of friends and family as well as acquaintances who will deeply miss him. He was a giving person who always went above and beyond to help anyone in need, many times going without to help others. He was affectionately known as “Stinky” by his sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcia Lynne (McGrath) Greene; his four children, Todd Greene of South Paris, Stephen Greene of South Paris, Kristin Gibson and her husband, Ira, of Bethel and Michael Greene of South Paris; his mother, Avis (Owen) Greene of Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center; grandchildren, Drake, Amy, Sheldon, Autumn, Tanner, James, Kaitlynne, Elizabeth and Arianna; sisters, Maureen Klopp of New Britain, Conn., Alice Turner and her husband, Artie, of Norway and Donna Huntley of Auburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased his father, Howard Ralph Greene Sr.; and two siblings, Howard Greene Jr. and Carol Ann Wing.
