RANGELEY — A local man is accused of stealing money from a cash register from The Clubhouse restaurant where he worked, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Tuesday.

Chad Alexander, 22, of Rangeley was given a court summons Saturday on a charge of theft by unlawful taking after police conducted an investigation, he said.

Alexander was playing pool after hours at the business and registered on the cash register at 10:46 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and registered off at 10:48 p.m., Leahy said. A report was made that there was about $140 missing from the cash register, he said.

Officer Ron Wood, assisted by officer Jared Austin, conducted an investigation and went to the Red Onion Restaurant where Alexander also worked, he said. They asked Alexander to come to the police station for an interview and he confessed to taking the money, Leahy said.

Alexander is scheduled to appear March 18 at a Farmington court.
