SABATTUS — State Rep. Stacy Dostie of House District 75 — comprising Greene and Sabattus — has announced her bid for re-election in November. Dostie is serving in her first term and is the only woman on the Legislature’s Utilities and Energy Committee.

Dostie has many accomplishments in her first term. She submitted legislation to have a traffic light installed at the intersection of routes 126 and 132 due to more traffic because of Exit 86 on the Maine Turnpike. This legislation helped move the project forward to an installation date of March 2010. Dostie also helped pass important legislation to prevent, diagnose and treat an increasing number of concussive head injuries in student-athletes.

Dostie has put forth legislation to make government more transparent as it pertains to e-mail and bullying/coercing on the municipal and state level. Local municipal government actions prompted her to submit this legislation. She is also lead co-sponsor on a piece of legislation to require paid petitioners to register with the secretary of state before they can collect signatures in the state. The hope is that this legislation will prevent forged petitions and false information from being distributed by petitioners, as were recently submitted in Greene.

Dostie is concerned about the current proposed budget cuts and their potential to increase property taxes, and will be watching this issue very closely. She believes there is much more work to be done, and is gearing up for an active campaign.

Dostie may be reached at 375-8809 or [email protected], or visit her Web site at www.stacydostie.info.
