Daniel C. Johansen Sr.
1951 – 2010
TAMPA, Fla. — Daniel C. Johansen, 59, of 192 Rabbit Valley Road, Oxford, died Saturday, Jan. 30, in Tampa, Fla., of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 21, 1951, the son of Edwin and Bertha Bussiere Johansen. Educated locally, he was a Vietnam Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He trained to become a Ranger at Fort Benning, Ga. During his career in the Army, he had two tours of Vietnam. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device, 2 O/S Bars, and the Army Commendation Medal.
After his discharge in 1975, he returned to Columbus, Ga. He continued his education at Chattanooga College and received an associate of fire science. He went on to become a fire fighter with the city of Columbus, Ga. He moved to the Lewiston area in the 1980s.
He worked in dry wall application till becoming a long haul truck driver in 1992. He retired in 2008. A member of the American Legion and Lewiston Eagles Club. He had a lifelong love of fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, the former Rita Pelletier of Oxford; three sons, Daniel “Chuck” Jr. and wife, Laurie, of Upatol, Ga., Gregory and wife, Tonya, of Columbus, Ga., and Justin Fitzhebert of West Gardiner; three stepdaughters, Shawn and husband, Paul Sprenkle, of Northeast, Md., Jennifer Aksamit of Portland and Amy and husband, Steve Boulanger, of Rumford; five brothers, Edwin and wife, Carol, of Colchester, Conn., Norman and wife, Linda, of East Hartford, Conn., Ronald and wife, Jeannine, of Lewiston, John and wife, Cathy, of Lewiston and Michael Caron and wife, Anne, of Lewiston; four sisters, Nancy Jackson of Farmville, Va., Sonia and husband, Raymond Dallaire, of Lewiston, Carol and husband, Jay Bernard, of Dixfield and Donna Fouquette of Marietta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Austin Johansen, Gregory Johansen, Lacy Johansen, Austin Sanders, Mason Sprenkle, Samantha Sprenkle, Jaden Boulanger and Lily Boulanger; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Janet.
