Eveline Brown Crowley
1925 – 2010
AUBURN — Eveline Brown Crowley, 84, of Dixfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1925, in Rumford, the daughter of Oral and Hester (Chase) Brown. She attended local schools and went on to attend the University of Massachusetts.
During the 1960s, she worked helping to start Portland’s Head Start Program. She later worked in the Peru school system teaching and as the librarian. She volunteered with Western Maine Transportation and helped with the Canton Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, listening to the scanner, and the company of her dog, Willie.
She is survived by her children, James Dyment and his wife, Cynthia, of Canton, April Crowley of Lewiston and Patti Bartos of Brunswick; a sister, Nellie Sherwood of Buffalo, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; sons, Billy Dyment and Samuel Crowley; a grandson, Timothy Dyment; and brothers, Tom Brown and Virgil Merrill.
