JAY — A Wilton man faces charges after police say he failed to stop for an officer for a traffic violation, and then tried to elude police by fleeing into the woods on foot early Thursday.
Jay police officer Nicholas Gulliver arrested Brandon Gray, 26, on charges of felony operating after habitual offender revocation, and misdemeanor driving to endanger and refusing to stop for a law enforcement officer, Sgt. Troy Young said.
Gulliver attempted to stop a sport utility vehicle traveling south on Route 133, also known as Franklin Road, after he witnessed the vehicle traveling above the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit near Al’s Tire Service, Young said. The SUV failed to stop, despite Gulliver signaling with emergency lights, he said.
The vehicle continued south on Franklin Road turning onto Highland Avenue, then Belleview Drive and eventually coming to a stop on Lavoie Street, he said.
The driver, police identified as Gray, jumped out of the SUV and took off running with Gulliver in pursuit, Young said. The foot chase ended in a backyard off Cargill Street in Livermore Falls, after a brief struggle, he said. Gulliver took him to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.
Gray was also issued a warning for speeding. He is scheduled to be arraigned on April 23 at the Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.
