Ivan P. “Hippe” Austin Sr.
1932 – 2010
LEWISTON – Ivan P. “Hippe” Austin Sr., 77, a resident of Hillman Ferry Road in East Livermore, died Friday evening, Feb.12, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, following a brief illness.
He was born July 18, 1932, the son of Forrest and Grace (Record) Austin. He was a 1950 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 2, 1979, he married his wife of 30 years, Sally A. Conant. In his early years he was a self-employed logger. Ivan also worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority, and in trucking and foreman on road construction. He was an avid sportsman and was a member of the National Rifle Association, Sportsman Alliance of Maine, North America Hunting Club and served as an instructor for Maine hunter safety courses. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he especially loved the time he spent with them.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Austin, of East Livermore; his son, Ivan Austin Jr., and his wife, Doris, of Turner; four daughters, Patricia “Patty” Pepin of Readfield, Dorothy “Dot” Austin of Auburn, Pauline “Polly” Austin of Brunswick and Grace Sheloske of Minot; two stepsons, Kevin Dunton and his wife, Sherri, and Jeffrey Dunton and his wife, Autumn; a stepdaughter, Pam Letalien and her husband, Michael, all of East Livermore; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Austin and his wife, Leota, of Turner; and a sister, Eva Dunnigan and her husband, Dale, of Arkansas; and his loving cat, Morris.
He was predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Olivia Russell; three brothers, Gerald, Clarence and Willis Austin; and two sisters, Edith Austin and Charlotte Roak.
