Evelyn B. Rolfe

1909 – 2010

WINTHROP — Evelyn Booth Rolfe, 100, died on Feb. 14, at Winthrop Manor.

She was born in Methuen, Mass., on Nov. 27, 1909, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Stanhope) Booth. The family moved to Lewiston in 1915. Evelyn graduated from Lewiston High School in 1927, and from Bliss Business School where she taught for eight years after graduating.

She married Chester H. Rolfe on July 2, 1939. They lived in Monmouth and she taught commercial subjects in Winthrop High School and later at Monmouth Academy. During the next few years she and Chet lived in various places around Maine, wherever his job took them. Then they moved to Florida, living in the St. Petersburg area for many years. After he retired they spent summers in Maine and returned to Monmouth to live in 2001. Chester died June 25, 2007.

She is survived by two sisters, Arline Ross of Newbury, Vt., and Leora DeOrsey and her husband, Clarence E., of Sun City, Fla. Also a niece, Patricia (Ross) Van Wagoner of Epping, N.H.; and two nephews, Steven B. Ross and his wife, Virginia, of South Ryegate, Vt., and Stan DeOrsey and his wife, Joan, of Monmouth; six grandnephews; and three great-grandnieces.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.
