Phillip W. Piela
1941 – 2010
AUBURN — Phillip William Piela, 68, of New Gloucester, passed away Feb. 10, in Auburn.

He was born in Monmouth, Dec. 18, 1941, the son of Edward William and June Evelyn Tompkins Piela, he attended Monmouth Academy. Phil enlisted in the Navy serving in the Pacific. He married Patricia Morrison.

He started his truck driving career with Mayflower and worked for them for 30 years and most recently worked for Gorham Sand and Gravel, hauling heavy equipment. He loved camping, hunting, fishing and restoring antique vehicles, most recently a Model A Ford.

He was father to: Mark Piela, Michelle Piela Landry and husband, Scott; two grandsons, Joshua Piela and Cody Landry; dad to: Valerie Dube, Vicky Ridlon, Gene Foss, Kevin Foss, David Foss, Mark Foss, Glen Foss; siblings, Grace Bates and husband, Len, Leon Piela and wife, Beverly, Norene George and husband, Tom, Raymond Piela and wife, Susan; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
