NORWAY — During school vacation week, Feb. 15-19, elementary students are invited to the Norway Memorial Library to play dozens of card games, from classics like Uno and Go Fish, to newer games like Set, Monopoly Deal and Scrabble Slam!

A special instruction session will be offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in the newly rearranged Children’s Room. Most of the games are geared toward students 7 years old and up. Parents and other caregivers are welcome to play as well.

Children’s Services Coordinator Anne Campbell said the American Library Association has long recognized the value of gaming — including computer games, board games, and card games — to literacy improvement. Plus, playing games is a great way for families to have fun together.

Throughout the week, card games will be set out in the Children’s Room so families can stop by and play Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Thursday, noon to 5 p.m.).

Space on Feb. 16 is limited. Participants are asked to call 743-5308 or sign up at the Children’s Room desk.

Rick Nero, Culiandra Nero and Jade Keene, all of Norway, play Go Fish, one of the many card games that will be available in the Norway Memorial Library’s Children’s Room this week during school vacation.
