Douglas A. Goodrich
1929 – 2010
CANTON — Douglas A. Goodrich, 80, a resident of Staples Hill Road, Canton, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 14, at home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Bingham, the son of Albert (Mike) Goodrich and Christy (Hawes) Goodrich. He was a graduate of Scarborough High School. Doug served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On June 13, 1954 in Scarborough, he married Margery A. Durgin. She passed away Aug. 12, 2000.
He worked most of his life as a carpenter and painter. He also worked as a lobsterman, a clam digger and operated a seafood market in South Portland. He worked for F.D. Resources as a house manager for mentally retarded adults in Madison and also as a drug and alcohol counselor in Oregon. Since retiring, he wintered each year in Florida, until this year.
He was a member of the North American Fishing Club, Turtles, AARP, Good Sam Club and past member of the AmVets in Scarborough. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, reading, playing poker, cooking and especially telling stories.
He is survived by his son, Scott Goodrich of Lewiston; two daughters, Diane Riley of Sheridan, Ark., and Tammy Richardson and her husband, Eric, of Canton; grandchildren, Danielle Autrey and her husband, Craig, of Sheridan, Ark., Amy Goodrich of Skowhegan and Josh Richardson of Canton; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brent and Zoie Autrey of Sheridan, Ark.; and brothers, Donald Goodrich of Standish and Lloyd Goodrich of Tamarac, Fla.
He was predeceased by his son, Douglas L. Goodrich; and his parents, Albert and Christy (Hawes) Goodrich.
