Eleanor G. Johnson
1922 – 2010
AUBURN — Eleanor G. Johnson, 87, of Turner Street, passed with her family at her side on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin after a long illness.
She was born in Leeds, Feb. 20, 1922, the daughter of James and Ada (Jackson) Pettingill. She was a graduate of Monmouth Academy, Class of 1940. She then became employed at Twin City Printery, where she met her future husband, Leonard R. Johnson. He passed away in 1976. She loved her family, loved family gatherings and enjoyed new adventures right into her 80s.
She cared for many children for her friends and family, instilling, in her own spirited way, a love of life, moral values and character. A warm and gentle person, she always welcomed everyone into her home. She also enjoyed cooking, vacationing, the coast of Maine and country music.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Johnson and his wife, Sharon, of Nashville,Tenn., and Rick Johnson and his wife, Connie, of Turner; two sisters, Dorothy Ray of South Paris and Helen Wotherspoon and her husband, John, of Minot; six grandchildren, Scott, Craig, Melissa, Krista, Justin and Samuel; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Leonard; she was predeceased by a great-grandchild, Haley Johnson; two brothers; and five sisters.
