LEWISTON — Roger Roy recently retired from the Lewiston Fire Department after serving for 25 years.

Most of his years were spent on Engine 5 at the Main Street station; he spent almost as much time on Engine 4 at the Sabattus Street station, where he was most recently serving.

Roy has had a number of memorable events over his career, including a porch roof collapsing on his head during a fire on Park Street, a ceiling collapsing on him and five other firefighters while fighting a fire at the library, and falling through a floor during a fire at the former Hillcrest Poultry building. Fortunately, he was caught by a floor joist and pulled back up to safety.

Roy also worked in the construction field. He plans to use that knowledge in his post-retirement business, conducting home inspections.
