WILTON — A lively concert of traditional Irish songs and music from the British Isles takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Wilton First Congregational Church at 386 Main St.

A group of local musicians, known as Talisker, will share a varied program of instrumental jigs, solos, ensemble singing and some sing-alongs while encouraging audience involvement through feet stomping, clapping and often impromptu dancing.

“Entertainment that will raise people’s spirits. We’re so privileged to have these talented people perform in Wilton,” said Ruth Simcock, member of the church’s Mission Committee, which is sponsoring the event.

Members of Talisker each have their own history of recitals and concerts, some in other states and countries. Members include Donna Campion, Peter Campion, Elaine Eadler, Dan (Tree) Robbins, Kathryn Systma and John Systma, each an accomplished musician and performer.

Peter Campion, who plays guitar and tin whistle, has performed in London and Maine featuring varied music but centering on British folk music, Simcock said.

Donna Campion, a teacher of voice and piano, shares her “wonderful voice,” she said.

Eadler’s history includes performances in pubs in Ireland and she plays a bodhran (Irish drum) along with guitar and tambourine.

In the 1970s, Robbins enjoyed playing for Revolutionary War re-enactments in Massachusetts but then turned his talent to Irish songs and music. He plays the tin whistle.

Now a piano teacher, Kathryn Systma plays viol de gamba and has performed on stages in Los Angeles, Canada and Maine and plays along with family, friends and as a member of Talisker.

John Systma plays the Krummhorn and other recorders and percussion instruments.

The benefit concert, sponsored by the church’s Mission Committee, will help support church mission activities, one of which was hosting a January Warming Center.

“It caught on. People of different ages attended and said how much they appreciated it,” she said. “It warmed your heart and spirit as much as your bones.”

The Warming Center is being hosted this month on Monday and Thursdays at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission for the Sunday concert is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. All are welcome.
