LEWISTON — All Androscoggin County Republicans will caucus on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Geiger Elementary School, 601 College St.
Republican gubernatorial candidates Steve Abbott, Bill Beardsley, Matt Jacobson, Paul Lepage, Peter Mills, Les Otten, Bruce Poliquin and J. Martin Vachon have committed to attending the caucus, and will speak at the start of the program at 9 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m., following the speeches, Republicans from each town will go to their own separate designated area and hold individual caucuses, including holding straw polls to informally select a gubernatorial candidate. Those eligible to vote must be enrolled in the Republican Party as of 11:30 a.m. that day, plus 17-year-olds who say they are Republicans and will be 18 years old by Nov. 2.
Androscoggin County towns gathering for caucus, are: Auburn, called by Tom Shields; Durham, called by Lois Snowe-Mello; Greene, called by Jim Simones; Leeds, called by Charles Vanvlack; Lewiston, called by Doug Hodgkin; Lisbon/Lisbon Falls, called by Dan Nezol; Livermore, called by Joanne Said; Livermore Falls, called by George Cummings; Mechanic Falls, called by Shannon Bissonnette; Minot, called by Ellie Biron; Poland, called by George Sanborn; Sabattus, called by Deo Lauria; Turner, called by Roy Nickerson; and Wales, called by Randy Greenwood.
Voters will also elect delegates to the state Republican Convention to be held in Portland on May 7 and 8.
Every registered Republican in Androscoggin County is eligible to attend the caucus. Unenrolled and unregistered voters will have an opportunity to enroll in the party from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
Jason Levesque, Republican candidate for Congress, is also scheduled to attend this caucus.
