Janet M. Lalonde

1929 – 2010

LEWISTON — Janet Marie Lalonde died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, Feb. 17, at her home on Pond Road, after suffering a short bout with cancer.

She was born to Mr. Richard and Mrs. Helen (Carlin) Walmsley on Jan. 24, 1929. Her family lived on Sixth Street in New Auburn. She had a twin sister, Joan, with whom she was extremely close, and they both graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1947. She then graduated from Pelletier’s School of Cosmetology. She was an instructor for several years at Pelletier’s.

She also worked for Saunders The Florist for 25 years. She was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Parish all her life. She was a very thoughtful, graceful women with a deep love of her family. If you knew her, you loved her. Throughout her lifetime, she remained faithfully devoted to her family. She particularly enjoyed watching her two grandsons, Eric and Kevin playing for Leavitt High School state champions football team, and her other grandson Christian playing lacrosse for Wesleyan University. She also enjoyed hearing anything to do with Dartmouth College and Trinity University, where her other two remaining grandsons attended college.

She enjoyed molding cookies, knitting, reading cook books, loved the ocean, especially Boothbay, which was a private little getaway for her and her husband Daniel. Most of all, she relished having all of her family by the pool. She and Daniel have been married for almost 50 years and she was his total life and Dan will always love her.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Lalonde Sr., retired deputy fire chief of Lewiston; a son, Daniel R. Lalonde Jr., M.D., and his wife, Mercedes; a daughter, Susan Theiss and her husband, James; sisters, Mary Godin and her husband, Wilfred and Teresa St. Pierre and her husband, Gene; grandchildren, Ricky Lalonde, Joshua Lalonde, Christian, Lalonde, Eric Theiss and Kevin Theiss.

She was predeceased by her twin sister, Joan Walmsley.
