NAPLES — Lake Region Community Theatre will hold auditions for “Hello Dolly!” on Monday and Tuesday, March 1-2, at Lake Region High School.
“Hello Dolly!” is the winner of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Lyrics and music are by Jerry Herman, based on the book by Michael Stewart and Thornton Wilder’s 1955 “The Matchmaker.”
In the show, the irrepressible widow, Dolly Gallagher Levi, needs to find a wife for uptight merchant Horace Vandergelder. But she soon falls in love and decides to keep him for herself, scheming and signing her way into Horace’s hard heart. The joyful score includes such memorable songs as “Before the Parade Passes By” and “Hello, Dolly!” — made famous by Louis Armstrong,
Although Dolly is the central character, the show has an ensemble cast, with the chorus playing a vital part. This is an opportunity for actors and actresses from high school age and up. Both singers and nonsingers are needed. A few children, ages 8-12, will be considered.
The show will be directed by Jerry Walker, with musical direction by Mary Bastoni and choreography by Pam Collins Stahle. Performances will be in late June at Deertrees Theatre in Harrison.
Auditions will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Auditioners should arrive prior to 8 p.m. For more information, log on to www.lrctme.org or call 655-7317.
