FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners reviewed a job description for a finance director this week.

Commissioners requested the outline of responsibilities for the position be developed last December, in case a treasurer is elected who is not qualified to handle the county’s finances, Chairman Gary McGrane of Jay said Tuesday.

Longtime Treasurer Karen Robinson does not plan to seek another term when hers expires Dec. 31.

Currently there are no qualifications necessary to be elected county treasurer, McGrane said.

The finance director, if hired, would be responsible for the overall administrative, fiscal and cash management of the county’s finances. The director would serve as the liaison with auditors, banks, payroll processing company, and the general public.

If the position is approved, then the elected treasurer’s hours and hired deputy treasurer’s hours would be reduced, county Clerk Julie Magoon said.

Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton asked if the position would have any affect on department heads handling and paying out of their budgets?

“No,” McGrane and Commissioner Fred Hardy of New Sharon said.
