Maurice Cote gives Stephanie Upton a lesson on old shoe-making machinery at Bates Mill No. 5 in Lewiston on Thursday. Upton, a Museum L-A board member, is gathering information so that the museum can determine which pieces of machinery are worth preserving for a future display about the history of local shoe manufacturing. Cote, the owner of PAMCO Machinery, a shoe machine supplier in Lewiston, looked over 14 machines that the museum must move before the mill at the corner of Main and Canal streets comes down in early March.
