LEWISTON — “I am ecstatic and so pleased. The free tax preparation and wonderful customer service is so helpful,” said Melissa Blaisdell, one of 155 area residents who utilized the LA CA$H Coalition’s Super Refund Saturday on Feb. 6 at the Lewiston Multi-Purpose Center.
IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers prepared and e-filed Federal and State tax returns as part of the Coalition’s Earned Income Tax Credit annual outreach. The EITC is a Federal benefit for low-to-moderate income workers.
A financial education fair was also on site, where attendees could visit tables manned by representatives of entities such as the Lewiston Career Center, Lewiston Housing Authority Family Self-Sufficiency Program, Community Mediation Services, Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Women, Work and Community.
Micheal Voisine, a single dad, said, “The atmosphere at this event is very upbeat, and to have this opportunity and service is huge.”
Another resident, Tammy Jackson said, “I’ll be back next year, and I’ll give everyone I know the telephone number for this free tax preparation service.”
The coalition will offer free tax preparation through the end of March, and residents may call 513-3160 to make an appointment. The service is provided at both the Multi-Purpose Center and Auburn City Hall.
