PHILLIPS – Voters will be asked Thursday to consider enacting an ordinance that would give town leaders time to develop an ordinance to regulate wind energy facilities.
The special town meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 in the library at the Phillips Elementary School. The Wind Energy Facility Moratorium Ordinance would give the
Planning Board 180 days to find out how and where townspeople would consider commercial wind projects developed in the town, if they do. Currently, the town has no oversight on such projects.
Townspeople will also take up an amendment to the town’s Zoning Ordinance to comply with the state’s guidelines for shoreland zoning. The amendment includes three state-required new resource protection areas and guidelines.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection met with affected property owners to discuss the issues, town Code Enforcement Officer Katharine Shoaps said Thursday.
Copies of the proposed ordinances are available at the town office.
