Alphonse A. Peseckis

1936 – 2010

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Alphonse A. Peseckis, 73, of Lewiston died Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Lewiston, May 23, 1936, at his lifelong home, the son of Lithuanian immigrants, Walter and Antoinette (Semajauskas) Peseckis.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in history and government at the University of Maine in Orono. He then attended Boston University School of Education, where he completed a year of studies. He received his master’s in education at the University of Southern Maine, and his certificate of advance studies in counseling at the University of Maine in Orono.

Following his education, he went on to teach middle school, French, mathematics and fifth-grade at Pettingill Elementary school until his retirement from the Lewiston School Department. He was an exceptional teacher.

He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He enjoyed gardening, music and was an avid reader of nonfiction, which included history, religion, philosophy and Russian/Lithuanian studies. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sister, Florence Beaulieu and her husband, Laurier, of Reading, Mass.; his nephews, Frank Peseckis and his wife, Lynn, of Riviera Beach, Fla., Steven Peseckis and his wife, Jayne, of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, and Laurier Beaulieu of Reading, Mass.; his nieces, Theresa Morris and her husband, Sean, of Andover, Mass., and Lana Woodcock and her husband, Scott, of Portsmouth, N.H.; his great-nephews, Noah Peseckis, Alexander Peseckis and William Peseckis; and his great-nieces, Sara Peseckis, Meghan Morris, Bridget Morris and Nastasya Woodcock.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Frank Peseckis, and his twin brother, Edward Peseckis.
