Terry Karkos/Sun JournalDixfield firefighters retrieve pieces of a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon on Friday afternoon after driver Anthony M. Gage, 20, of 770 Knowlton Corner Road, Farmington failed to negotiate a curve while traveling east-bound on Route 2, veered into a drainage ditch, bounced airborne and slammed into a culvert snowbank, Dixfield police Chief Richard A. Pickett said. Gage suffered minor facial injuries from the airbag, but refused medical attention from Med-Care Ambulance, Pickett said. The chief said that while Gage claimed a mechanical problem prevented him from steering, he believes that based on the evidence, Gage may have fallen asleep as there were no brake or skid marks. No charges are expected. The car was totaled.
