Lillian M. Gordon
1919 – 2010
LEWISTON — Lillian M. Gordon went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 18, after a long illness. She was resident of Auburn and maintained her own apartment at the home of her daughter on Cook Street.
She was born April 13, 1919, to Thomas and Elise Martin of Hamlin. During her early years, she attained a seventh grade education. She worked on the family farm and at various other jobs until World War II. During the war, she migrated to Lewiston with her sisters to seek employment. They lived on Pine Street in Lewiston. She worked at the Bates Mill in Lewiston, the Lown Shoe Mill in Auburn and various other jobs.
On April 28, 1951, she married Robert H. Gordon. They resided in Lewiston on Summit Avenue for 34 years before Robert’s death in 1987. Lillian was a homemaker and took care of their only daughter. In 1988, she moved to Auburn to live in her own apartment at her daughter’s home on Cook Street. While on Cook Street, she enjoyed watching her two granddaughters grow up. She enjoyed taking trips to the Portland Mall and eating at Valle’s Restaurant. She enjoyed watching her granddaughters marry and was thrilled to have great-grandchildren. She had a sign on her wall that said “Memere’s My Name and Spoiling’s My Game.” Her illness took a toll on her mobility and she spent time watching T.V. soap operas, enjoyed reading and sunny afternoons of rocking on her deck. More recent Sunday afternoons were spent playing Bingo with her daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters.
Lillian is survived by one sister, Madelyn Pelletier, of Hollywood, Fla. Lillian lived with her only daughter, Sandra Bixby and her husband, Chet, of Auburn. She was very close to her granddaughters, Rebecca Lacasse and her husband, Nate, of Auburn, and Karen Giguere and her husband, Rick, of Auburn. She was very proud of her great-granddaughters, Casey and Riley Lacasse, and looked forward to the birth of her first great-grandson, Zachary Giguere, in May, 2010.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Gordon; her brothers, Frank, Fred and Charles Martin; and a sister, Mable Martin.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Seth Gordon, “a fellow Gordon,” for his kind and compassionate care, and the wonderful staff of 2 East at d’Youville Pavilion for the care, compassion, joy and comfort they gave to Lillian and her family.
