Fred S. Poland
1917 – 2010
NORWAY — Fred Stanley Poland, 93, of Oxford, died Thursday, Feb. 18, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
He was born in Oxford on Jan. 7, 1917.
He served his country during World War II serving in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, and received many metals including a Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for a while and later worked as a di-set box press operator.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vernice (Nicholas) Poland of Oxford; two sons, Neil and his wife, Arlene Snellman, of Oxford and Paul Snellman of Boston, Mass.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, Destiny Williams; two brothers-in-law, Oliver Nicholas of Oxford and John Gell of Watertown, Mass.; and his close cousin, Virginia Byrd of Lisbon.
