PARIS — A 27-year-old man from Mexico was ordered to serve two weeks in jail after pleading guilty to charges of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl.
Michael Thomas Early of 60 Main St. entered the plea Friday in the Oxford County Superior Court. Justice Robert Clifford accepted a plea agreement sentencing Early to 14 days in jail out of an underlying 364-day sentence. Early will also be on probation for one year and register as a sex offender for 10 years.
According to a report by Sgt. Roy Hodsdon of the Mexico Police Department, the girl said she and Early had consensual sex on several occasions between April and July. Hodsdon initially charged Early with 25 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and said Early used coercion in the first incidents.
Early denied the charges, but later admitted to having sex with the girl on at least two occasions while intoxicated. He was indicted in October on seven counts of sexual abuse of a minor and entered the plea to two of the charges. Prior to the plea, these counts were amended to a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 364 days in jail.
Speaking before the court, the girl’s mother said her daughter had become more withdrawn and confrontational.
“She deserves a healthy relationship with her family and peers,” said said. “Michael has torn [her] life apart and now I am trying to help her put it back together.”
