Arlene E. Somers
1924 – 2010
AUGUSTA — Arlene E. Somers, 85, a resident of Narrows Pond Road, Winthrop, died Feb. 23, in Augusta.
She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Clarence and Olive Kelley Robinson. She attended schools in Mount Vernon and Jay High School; she received her GED from Winthrop High School in 1975. On Sept. 4, 1947 in Farmington, she and Donald W. Somers were married.
She worked in food service as a caterer with Avis and Don Maxim; and she also worked as a personal care attendant for the Ladd family in Wayne. She enjoyed knitting, doing crafts and she also loved to cook. She was a member of the Winthrop Grange and Winthrop Friends Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Jane Cooper and her husband, Carroll, of Monmouth, Cathy Given of Edgecomb, Joan Lowe of Somers, Conn., and Lynn Hopkins and her husband, Jim, of Monmouth; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Somers of Mt. Vernon and Janet Robinson of Livermore; a brother-in-law, Ed Somers and his wife, Diana, of Readfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her former husband; and seven brothers and sisters.
