Well, here we go again: Employees of the town of Greene are looking for another pay raise. The town manager is getting more than $60,000; the highway foreman’s pay has gone from $27,000 to more than $36,000 in just five years; the code enforcement officer is now getting $37,000 a year, and they want more.
The economy is in the toilet; people are losing their homes; and property values in Greene have doubled (but you can’t sell for what the town has a property listed at). The town has a million-dollar fire department. Now there is a million-dollar town office building, but the town still has the same population.
Everybody is still going to the well, whether there is money in it or not.
Something has to change, or townspeople need to change the people who are running the town. Greene taxpayers and property owners just can’t afford this out-of-control management. The selectmen need to look out for the taxpayers’ interests and wake up and smell the roses.
Greene taxpayers cannot keep spending.
