AUBURN — Auburn Adult and Community Education has announced March classes. Enrollment for all classes is still open and registration should be done as soon as possible to secure space.
Microsoft PowerPoint is scheduled to begin Thursday, March 4. Participants will learn to use the presentation program to combine with other Microsoft Office programs and will learn the principles, tips and tricks to make a presentation most effective.
Internet: What’s That? will begin on Tuesday, March 2. Participants will learn how to search the Internet effectively, as well as how to create an online profile using Facebook. The course requires an at-home computer with Internet access.
Microsoft word 2007 (Intermediate) will begin on Tuesday, March 16. Attendees will learn to create more sophisticated publications, how to use graphics, create a simple Web page and add graphics, how to merge documents, sort records and create labels.
Computer Basics will start on Monday, March 22. Skills taught in the course will include, but are not limited to: starting, restarting and shutting down a Windows computer; using files and folders; launching applications like Word and Internet Explorer; opening and saving files; and mouse skills.
AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators will be held on Wednesday, March 10. The video and lecture based course is designed to increase safe driving awareness for those 55 and older. It qualifies for Maine’s mandatory insurance premium discount for those age 55 and older.
Boat Smart will be on Wednesday, March 3. The course will cover what people need to know to be involved with boating. It continues with boat handling, anchoring, equipment requirements, related laws, navigation aids and navigation rules.
German New Medicine will be on Tuesday, March 23. The class will present an overview of an entirely different medical model — different from Western medicine and different from alternative medicine. Discovered by a German doctor, the model offers a new understanding of what we commonly call “diseases,” based on five biological laws.
H & R Block’s Education Tax Credits and Saving for Higher Education will be held on Wednesday, March 10. An experienced tax professional will explain tax savings.
Introduction to Hemi-Sync and Expanded State of Awareness will be on Monday, March 8. Hemi-sync is a scientifically based and clinically proven audio-guidance technology that uses sound to influence brain wave activity. Utilizing the hemi-sync process, participants will be guided into expanded states of awareness, which may facilitate profound relaxation, deep contemplation, increased intuition and communication with the higher self and related energies.
Introduction to Home Electricity will be on Monday, March15. The course will not qualify participants as an electrician, but it will take the mystery out of watts, volts and amps. Attendees will learn how a home electrical system works, how to troubleshoot a circuit and repair an outlet, switch or light, and the principles behind GFI’s, wire sizing, circuit breakers and low voltage systems. Participants will also learn how to calculate costs before buying an appliance or for the ones already owned.
Juicing and Smoothies will be on Wednesday, March 3. Participants will learn about the health benefits of juicing, how to best combine vegetables and fruits and how to get great nutrition into kids who are picky eaters.
Learn to See Auras will be on Monday, March 15. The aura is the emanation of life force surrounding the body of all living creatures. Located along the central line of the body, chakras receive and transmit life-force energy to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. When people experience unreleased emotions such as fear, anger or guilt, the energy flows less freely and can become blocked. Once the chakras have been cleared, a person will be shown how to perceive and read an aura.
Living Foods—Breakfast will be on Wednesday, March 17 and Living Foods—Lunch will be on Wednesday, March 31. The classes will feature living foods and cultured foods. Participants will cover the basics of the Living Foods Lifestyle as developed by Dr. Ann Wigmore and then expand it to include the superfoods that are cultured. Each class will have a separate focus on meals and snacks.
Make It Your Own-Beaded Jewelry will be held on Thursday, March 4 and 11. A representative of Bead Retreat will conduct both classes. During the March 4 class, participant will create a wire wrap stone bangle bracelet and in the March 11 class, participants will weave gold and silver plate beads to create a two-tone bracelet.
Maine Driving Dynamics will be on Wednesday, March 10. The five-hour course will offer all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. Those completing the course will receive a certificate and a three-point credit on their driving record. Seniors over 55 qualify for a discount on their auto insurance.
Manifesting Made Easy will be on Monday, March 22. Participants will learn to attract what they most desire and enhance their ability to manifest positive elements in their lives.
Middle Eastern Dance (belly dance) will be on Wednesday, March 31. Participants will learn more about the art form of belly dance and the history behind it and get some exercise.
Women’s Self Defense will begin on Tuesday, March 2. The six-week program with hands-on training in self defense techniques is designed for both stand up and ground attacks as well as how to recognize a potential threat. The class will be taught at the Phoenix Karate Academy in Auburn.
