PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Maine Turnpike’s plan to replace the York Toll Plaza has moved a step forward.

The turnpike authority voted unanimously to submit four options for the project to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for review.

The turnpike authority wants to replace the 41-year-old, deteriorating toll plaza with a modern plaza that would allow E-ZPass users to pay tolls by passing beneath sensors at normal highway speeds. Cash-paying customers would exit the mainline of the highway briefly to pay their tolls at a more traditional toll booth.

The four options include replacing the plaza at the existing location, replacing the plaza at mile marker 8.7, replacing it at mile marker 9.1 and a no-build option.
