MEXICO — Faculty from the University of Maine at Augusta will present three informative sessions for people interested in pursuing careers in human services, business management and computer information systems, on Friday, March 5, 12 and 19. Each interactive video conference session will be held from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the University College of Rumford/Mexico Center, 13 Brown St.

The session on March 5 will feature faculty from the Mental Health and Human Services program at UMA. The program offers bachelors and associates degrees, as well as certificate programs.

Coursework in both degree programs includes general education classes in combination with mental health, substance abuse, human services and child and family courses. Each degree program culminates with an internship, offering students direct experience in the field.

The March 12 video conference will feature faculty from UMA’s Business Administration program. They will provide an overview of the program and offer opportunities for participants to ask questions. The bachelor and associate degree programs provide a broad knowledge in modern business and management, with an opportunity to concentrate in accounting, financial services, management, small business or public administration.

Students in these program develop an array of marketable skills including technical accounting and analytical and managerial abilities. Business program graduates have found themselves in such fields as marketing, management, tax accounting and auditing.

On March 19, faculty from UMA will present an information session for people interested in pursuing careers in computer information systems. UMA’s bachelor and associate of science programs prepare student for careers in the field of computer information.

According to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor statistics, employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2016. The bachelor program combines course work with an internship component to provide real-world experience desired by employers.
