SOUTH PARIS — Cub Scout Pack 130 will present the first annual Pinewood Derby Open Competition to be held on Friday, March 19, at the First Congregational Church of South Paris, 17 East Main St. Registration will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to individuals and local businesses.

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that boys make with help from their families and then race in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a regulation track.

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as a trophy for the Best of Show. The entry fee will also include a certificate of participation. All businesses will be acknowledged as a sponsor on a placard displayed at the event.

Attendance is limited so participants are urged to register early. Active Cub Scouts are not permitted to compete in the event.

Entry fees before Friday, March 12 are $10 for an individual and $25 for a business. After March 12, fees are $15 for an individual and $30 for a business.

To register, or for rules and more information, contact Dennis Bowden, cub master at 743-8902.
