Clement A. Cormier
1924 – 2010
AUBURN — Clement A. Cormier of Lewiston passed away, after a short illness, on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Hospice House in Auburn. He was surrounded by family and friends at his passing.
Clem was born in Lewiston on Sept. 28, 1924, and was a lifelong resident of this community. He was the only son of Sarah and Anthony Cormier. He was happily married to Marge (Ashton) Cormier for 58 years, and they would have celebrated their 59th anniversary in April.
He was a graduate of Lewiston High School Class of 1942 and attended Suffolk University in Boston. Clem was a proud veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army in the South Pacific Theater of the War.
He worked for the New England Yellow Pages for 32 years and was a “Pioneer” member of the organization. Since retirement he has been involved with many company reunions. He was also a member of the Elks Club and United Commercial Travelers.
Clem had a glorious retirement! He could be found playing golf most days at his beloved Fairlawn Country Club. When the snow came he was cross country skiing around Range Pond in Poland. He enjoyed his great health and adventurous spirit by traveling the world with Marge. They visited Russia, China, Europe, the Holy Lands, Australia, Greece and too many other places to be mentioned. His love of travel and adventure lasted to the end of his life.
There was no place he was happier than Swampscott, Mass., with his two grandsons, Ben and Alex. He played a major role in their lives, and he spent countless hours at football, baseball, basketball and lacrosse games and at school functions. Many people thought he was a resident of Swampscott because he knew so many people there.
Clem was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Parish, where he served as an usher and helped at funerals.
He passed along his love of Reid State Park to generations of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews by hosting a clambake that has taken place every summer for nearly 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; his son, Steve, daughter-in-law, Kathy, and two grandsons, Ben and Alex; and nieces and nephews from all over the country and the world.
The family would like to gratefully thank the doctors and nurses at Central Maine Medical Center and the entire staff at the Hospice House in Auburn.
