Ruby A. Tripp

1919 – 2010

POLAND — Ruby A. Tripp, 90, of Poland, passed away in peace and dignity on Friday, Feb. 26, at her home as she wished to be, surrounded by family pictures, her two sisters and her long-term caregivers.

She was born in Casco on July 30, 1919, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude Small Tripp. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1936 and the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. Ruby worked as a buyer for Millikin-Tomlinson Co. which later became Wetterau Co. in their Portland division. She worked there from 1942 until her retirement in 1977.

Ruby was a lifelong resident of Poland. As a girl scout leader in the 1950s, she and her brother, Donald, a boy scout leader, organized a teen center for young people in Poland. She loved to travel, was an avid reader of books, enjoyed gardening, genealogy and camp in Stoneham with family. Family came first with Ruby. She provided care and support for her parents and five brothers and sisters all her life.

She was a member of the Poland Community Church and was active in the historical society to preserve the history of Poland. Restoring the red school house was an important part of her retirement.
