FARMINGTON — A Farmington man faces charges of kidnapping and domestic assault Monday after police investigated a complaint made by a young woman.

Brian Smith, 24, was arrested Sunday after a female reported she had been physically assaulted and held against her will from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, said Farmington Police officer Darin Gilbert.

The woman was able to escape after being tied up part of the night and called police from a friend’s residence. After Farmington officer Bridgette Gilbert interviewed her, officer Darin Gilbert obtained a search warrant for Smith’s Temple Road home and was able to retrieve evidence that supported her complaint, he said.

A fight developed between the two over something that was posted on Facebook, according to court records.

Smith made an initial court appearance Monday, where bail was set at $10,000 cash. He remains at Somerset County Jail and is expected in court on June 25.
