LEWISTON — One opera chorus gem after another is what audiences can expect at Maine Music Society’s concert featuring the Androscoggin Chorale.

“A Night at the Opera” will offer choruses from a multitude of beloved operas, including Wagner’s Bridal March from “Lohengrin;” Verdi’s Anvil Chorus from “Il Trovatore;” and Handel’s Chorus of Enchanted Islanders from “Alcina.”

The Androscoggin Chorale will be conducted by Artistic Director John Corrie, accompanied by Bridget Convey.

Joining the chorale will be two guest soloists, soprano Suzanne Nance and baritone Leon Griesbach. Music director for Maine Public Broadcasting, Nance is an accomplished singer, actor and broadcaster. She studied music and communications at Syracuse University and completed her master’s degree in voice performance from DePaul University in Chicago. She has performed in operas worldwide, as well as with the Bangor and Portland symphony orchestras.

Nance will perform several solos, including Puccini’s Aria Donde lieta from “La Boheme” and Purcell’s Dido’s Lament and Final Chorus from “Dido and Aeneas.”

Leon Griesbach, a native of Lisbon Falls, will also complement the chorale with his vocal selections from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Wagner’s Aria: O du mein holder Abendstern from “Tannhauser.” He will also perform several duets with Nance.

Griesbach received a music degree in organ performance from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He has appeared in several operas, including a tour to Prague and Terazin in the Czech Republic. He has also performed with the Choir of Seventeen for Pope Benedict the XVI during a visit to Catholic University in 2008.

Griesbach is organist and choir master at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland and conducts the Boy Singers of Maine Concert Choir.

“A Night at the Opera” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham.
