Ida M. Lyon
1918 – 2010

AUBURN — Ida M. Lyon, 91, of 49 Pine Point Road, Scarborough, died Monday, March 15, after a brief illness, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

She was born in Rumford, Aug. 7, 1918, the daughter of the late Albert and Denise Melanson. She was educated in Rumford schools, including Stephens High School.

In 1939, she married Henry R. Lyon, who predeceased her in 2003, after 64 years of marriage. In her younger years, she enjoyed cross country skiing and snow shoeing. She and her husband enjoyed outdoor camping at various settings throughout New England and she cherished their frequent trips to Quebec, the setting of their nuptials. She was a great homemaker, decorator, cook and gardener. She loved to shop for a great bargain and could negotiate the best transaction.

She was loved by many and is survived by a daughter, Janice Boulay and husband, Lionel “Nel” of Naples; three sons, Dr. David Lyon and wife, C. Leah Holmes, of Rhode Island, Gregory Lyon and wife, Constance, of Amherst, N.H., and Henry Lyon Jr. and wife, Trudy, of Windham; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary “Mariette” Patrick of New York; and three brothers, Leo Melanson of Rumford, Richard Melanson of Dixfield and Albert Melanson of Germany.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kelly Jane Boulay in 2003; a great-grandson, Greyden Anctil in 2007; two sisters, Bella Stone and Viola Arsenault; and three brothers, Omer, George and Alcide Melanson.
