PORTLAND — The Pearl Starbird Scholarship Fund, established in 2005 at the Maine Community Foundation, supports graduates of any Oxford County high school or the Lake Region High School in Naples who are majoring in music, preferably classical, or the visual arts, including painting, drawing or sculpture, at the college level.

The scholarship honors Pearl Starbird, an accomplished artist and musician and summer resident of Waterford, who shared her passion for art as a teacher in the Boston schools.

The scholarship is meant to help students with a passion for music or the arts make the choice to pursue that passion rather than undertake a “more practical” course of study. Eligible applicants will be in good academic standing with a demonstrated interest in the arts or music.

Applications are due April 15. Guidelines and applications are available at www.mainecf.org or by calling 1-877-700-6800.
