LISBON — The Moxie Festival Committee has announced that Lisbon Falls resident Justin Liudvinaitis has won the 2010 theme contest with his entry, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Moxie.”

Liudvinaitis wrote, “Think flag waving, small town pride, backyard barbeques, sausage sandwiches, petting zoos and fireman’s muster! Now put that all together and start to feel the Americana in Moxie Day! There is no better way to feel better about a divided nation, a sagging economy and tension between people than seeing a Moxie Day Statue of Liberty, a Moxie Day Liberty Bell, Moxie Day fireworks and it ends with Moxie!”

He received a basket filled with new and old Moxie items as well as an invitation to join the VIPs at the 2010 Moxie Day Parade review stand on Saturday, July 10.

The parade, which attracts more than 100 participants, will begin at 9 a.m. and will follow the two-mile plus route that begins on Capital Avenue and Route 196 and ends at the Kitty Corner store on Main Street in Lisbon Falls.

Since 1983, The Moxie Festival has been held on the second weekend in July. The festival now includes a three-day Pow Wow, fireworks show, parade, 5K race, family fun carnival and the Chief Worumbo Androscoggin canoe race. Moxie was designated Maine’s official soft drink on May 20, 2005.

According to Lisbon Public safety officials, an estimated 40,000 people attend the three-day Moxie Festival. The Town of Lisbon has approximately 9,300 residents.

The Moxie Festival provides a venue for dozens of nonprofits to run fundraisers. For information on sponsorship opportunities and the parade, contact Rosie Bradley at RBradley@lisbonme.org or 353-3000, ext. 122. Visit the Moxie Festival Web site at www.MoxieFestival.com.
