BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The group of Maine residents who gather at Bangor International Airport to greet soldiers is reaching a milestone.

The Maine Troop Greeters expected to meet early Monday the 1 millionth service member to pass through the airport since the volunteers started counting in 2003.

The Bangor Daily News says the flight carrying the 1 millionth arrival was expected to be carrying soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colo.

The Maine Troop Greeters come to the airport day and night to provide warm welcomes to Bangor for soldiers returning from overseas or those heading out.

Many aircraft stop in Bangor as part of their intercontinental flights.
