SACO, Maine (AP) — A Maine city named for the Saco River that runs through it could one day build a riverside park on a 30-acre parcel of land the city acquired after the previous owner failed to pay taxes.
Saco City Councilor Les Smith says the parcel is well-situated for those who would like to take a short paddle on the river or stretch their legs.
Officials say the city could put a few barbecue grills and picnic tables on the site, but no one envisions a major development.
The Portland Press Herald says the city council is scheduled to vote April 5 on whether to set the land aside for possible park use.
Smith says he hasn’t heard any opposition to the proposal.
