LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted to approve a nearly $2.2 million municipal budget for 2010-11 to go to voters in June.
The proposed budget — about $2.18 million — represents more than a $500,000 decrease from the current $2.7 million budget.
The plan includes keeping the police department intact.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held in April.
The board’s votes on Wednesday were nearly all unanimous except for the administration and elected officials’ budget, Town Manager Jim Chaousis said Monday.
Selectman Alphonso Barker opposed two budgets that would have given 2 percent increases to elected officials and a non-union worker at the town office.
“It’s not that they are not good people but we have to take a stance somewhere,” Barker, who was at the town office, said.
The committee is proposing a $2.01 million budget that eliminates two police officers, and cuts wage increases for elected and nonunion employees by 2 percent. That proposal also carries reductions in the Fire Department and Highway Department budgets.
