SALEM — The Mt. Abram High School senior class took in 189 pounds of food for local food pantries in a drive on Martin Luther King Day.
The students held their food drive at the Avon Town Office in conjunction with a free community supper put on by the Sandy River Land Trust and High Peaks Alliance, two local organizations concerned with land conservation and public access to recreational trails in the High Peaks Region of western Maine.
The High Peaks Alliance, in a new trail initiative to create the “Cornelia Fly Rod Crosby Trail,” aims to connect communities with a footpath/multi-use trail that will stretch from Strong to Oquossoc when completed.
All food for the free supper/kick-off event in January was donated by local businesses. The senior class volunteered to help at the supper and ran a food drive at the door. Seniors recently donated their collection to area food pantries.
