LIVERMORE — Regional School Unit 36 directors will consider signing a notice of intent letter Tuesday to apply for federal grant funds to boost learning initiatives at the high school.

The emergency meeting will begin at 6 p.m., April 6, in the Livermore Elementary School gym.

Initially the board had voted 9-2, with Directors Denise Rodzen and Mac Haynes opposed, to go after the grant money after the high school was listed by federal criteria last month as being a continuing low performing school on SAT scores.

Superintendent Judith Harvey said she was told Friday that high school Principal Shawn Lambert will be resigning from the district at the end of the school year to take a job elsewhere, she said.

“Since receiving that news from Shawn we quickly figured we should at least get a letter of intent since today is the last day for submittal in just in case,” Harvey said Friday. “We are not bound to anything until the application goes in. I have hand-delivered the letter to (the Department of Education) and have received word that, even though we had notified them that we wouldn’t be going for the grant, it’s not too late.”

Board members also plan to review the proposed $9 million budget for 2010-11 to discuss questions some members have before final approval is voted on.

There will also be an executive session. Harvey said to discuss possible candidates for the superintendent’s position. Harvey is retiring at the end of June.
