LEWISTON — Comic songs, novelty tunes and tear-jerkers from the golden age of vaudeville comprise the program for an evening of true vintage entertainment on Saturday, April 10, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library. Performing for the 6:30 p.m. event is the band Over a Cardboard Sea, a seven-member nostalgia act from the Portland area.
Drawing strongly on a Tin Pan Alley and ragtime repertoire, the group backs up their four-part harmonies on multiple ukuleles as well as trombone, violin, piano, musical saw, megaphone and more. They also boast an extensive assortment of bad jokes which serve to add further levity to their performances.
The public is invited free of charge to the concert, which serves as the culminating event of the 5th annual Local and Sustainable Foods Conference taking place earlier in the day at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center under the sponsorship of Food for Maine’s Future.
