 The Sunshine Club met with their grand chief at 82 High St. one night after school this week and the following officers were elected for the next quarter: Chief, Marion Chaffin; vice chief, Alice Soule; recording sunbeam, Jennie Dean; corresponding sunbeam, Methel Drake; treasurer, Clarabel Thurlow; independent sunbeams, Eva Soule and Verna Parker; sick committee, Rose Morrison and Alice Chamberlain.

50 years ago, 1960

A University of Maine home-economics professor spoke yesterday to Lewiston High School girls on the career opportunities available in the fields of biochemistry and nutrition.

Dr. Ingabor McKellar gave a talk titled “New Frontiers in Nutrition” before 400 LHS girls in the college preparatory and home-economics courses. She also explained home-economics training at the college level.

25 years ago, 1985

Hall and Knight Hardware Co. of Lewiston has been named Bath Iron Works’ Small Business Contractor of the Year.

The announcement was made Thursday night by BIW chief executive officer William Haggett, who was a guest speaker at the first joint meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, Lewiston Development Corp. and Auburn Business Development Corp.

Haggett said the award will be presented to Hall and Knight officials in Washington, D.C., on May 9.
