AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The chairman of L.L. Bean’s board has become the largest contributor so far to the campaign to preserve Maine’s tax reform law.
The Kennebec Journal in Augusta reports Wednesday that Leon Gorman of Yarmouth donated $25,000 to the campaign opposing the people’s veto repeal drive.
On June 8, Maine voters will decide whether to repeal a new law that lowers the state income tax and broadens the sales tax base to a number of previously untaxed items and increases the meals and lodging tax.
Campaign finance reports say repeal opponents have collected a little more than $28,000 so far, while repeal supporters have raised $4,255.
