The fifth anual Optimist Club Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Tri-Town Optimist Club of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland was held recently at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls. Winners were, from left, first place, Delaney Woodford, Minot; second place, Erin Brewer, Poland; and third place, Emily Gibson, Mechanic Falls. Eight contestants from RSU 16 gave a four- to five- minute speech titled: “Cyber Communications: Progress or Problem?” The contest coordinator was Carl Beckett, assisted by Cindy Levesque, El Fanus and George Mathews. The judges were Yvon Gilbert, Nancy Watson and Sue Verrill. The timer was Dana Lee.
