BUCKFIELD — The Oddfellow Theater will present Amanda Huotari in “The Soiree,” an unconventional dramatic comedy, on Saturday, May 1.

“The Soiree” revolves around Elizabeth, a charming and witty hostess who is pretentious yet contagiously optimistic. A bon vivant, she never lets a glass get empty. However, the night is full of surprises and by pouring herself “just a splash” at a time, Elizabeth spills it all.

Written by Huotari, “The Soiree” is directed by Avner Eisenberg (Broadway’s Avner the Eccentric). The show debuted in 2007 with support from the Maine Arts Commission. It has been presented at the Cassandra Project in Portland and the New York Clown Theatre Festival in Brooklyn. This spring, it will be featured in the Orlando Fringe Festival in Florida.

Huotari is an actress, teaching artist and executive director of Celebration Barn Theater in Paris, Maine. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting from Emerson College and studied physical theater at the Lecoq School in Paris, France. She is a graduate of the International School of Comic Acting in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Huotari is now in her seventh season with Add Verb Production’s one-woman show “The Thin Line.” Her own solo work has been featured at the New York Clown Theatre Festival, Phyzgig Festival and Seattle’s Moisture Festival, and is now touring. In addition, she teaches workshops in schools as an artist-in-residence with the Maine Alliance of Arts Education.

“The Soiree” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Due to adult themes, the show is not recommended for children.
